Ok, so over at the Fashionista Next Door, Eboni did a series on Neutral Know How. She saw the tear out book marks in In Style's April edition (she's featured in the August issue, be sure to pick it up!) where they took 5 neutral colors, gray, olive, ivory, khaki, and navy and showed you what colors to combine them with. Eboni decided to put together 20 styles based on each of the color pairings.
I was so inspired by her looks that I decided to print the book marks and hang them up in my closet.
(my daughter wanted them as well.)
My look today was inspired by the Neutral Know How: Gray look. See two of Eboni's gray pairings here and here. Two perfect ways on how to style your gray clothing and accessories!!! She also has the bookmarks up over at her site.
Instead of gray as one of my main pieces, I decided to use it as an accent. I wore a pale yellow skirt, seafoam shirt, tan belt and shoes. I then accessorized all of that with pearl colored watch and bracelet with silver accents and a gray bag.
Colors to pair with gray: Royal blue, seafoam, lavendar and lemon.
My skirt is not quite lemon but it worked.
I'm typically drawn to neutral or warm colors. The more Mediterranean colors or the staple Black, cream and brown. Blogging is definitely making me go beyond my color horizons a little more!! (Green is becoming a fav!)
The skirt is thrifted. I found this at my favorite little thrifting spot about a year ago. I wasn't too keen on the pouch in the front but otherwise, i'm digging the way that it fits!
The bag was purchased at Burlington. The Bracelet from one of those at home jewelry parties. The watch was purchased at Macy's. The belt was thrifted. The shoes and shirt...I have no clue.
My hair is still styled in two flat twists. I washed and blew it out last Thursday and this has to be the easiest hairstyle EVER! I love! I just moisturize it at night, finger detangle, re-twist and i'm done!! I may just do a quick tutorial on it...hmmm. We'll see.
I'll definitely be posting more outfits based on the neutral know how book marks. They truly help on those days where you may be having trouble picking out something to wear!!
Thank you all for reading!
TTFN~
Just dropping in to say hello and to post mainly about my hair. Today, I actually LOVE it!
I'm still in that awkward stage and I'm still trying to figure out what to do with it. I'm not really a twist/mini twist person. I'm not into braids and weaves much anymore. I'm really in love with just wearing it out, but it seems to never want to behave all day. Through humidity, dryness, rain, sleet to sunny days, my hair just will not hold a braid out or twist out or bantu knot out. *sigh*
I managed to get up and dressed early enough to snap some pics this morning and catch my hair before it started acting all shady.
This is a flat twist out. Done by spritzing my hair with a little Jane Carter spray conditioner, Cantu Shea moisture lotion, detangling and twisting the night before. I am really digging the way that it turned out. As I sit here and type though, 7 hours later, I'm curious as to whether or not I still look like I do in these photos.
Well guys, these photos were taken exactly one month ago.
Isn't it funny how fast time flys.
I wanted to do a little bit of pattern mixing so I went with this red and white striped button down shirt and floral print skirt.
I felt it to be cool (it was burning up outside), lady like and comfy.
Thinking of it being lady-like, I went to see Act like a lady, think like a man over the weekend. Yes, I'm late and I went to see it at the "1.50" movie theater, which is now a 1.75. Lol! I had forgotten about it actually. If I don't go see a movie on opening weekend, I will typically forget about it until I see a dvd commercial or get really bored and think...hmm..let me check out the 1.50 movie list.
All in all, I think it was a pretty good movie. I'm glad that it ended on a note where everyone got what they wanted. Kind of that happily ever after feel! But it made me think, is it really a necessity to "act like a lady, but think like a man"?
I think that really seems to be the consensus these days.
I mean...can I not act like a lady and find a man that can, well...act like a man? Or gentleman. I really do not have time for games. I'm not looking for a boy to train into a proper suitor.
I don't know, maybe I have a warped way of thinking, but, if our focus is on pleasing each other, respecting each other, taking care of one another as we would care for ourselves...living by that Golden rule of treating others how we want to be treated...there wouldn't be a need for childish, time-wasting mind games.
Trust me, if I have to play a game with you, as you try every trick in the book to "get the cookies", 90 days of you sticking around will not get you a crumb from the cookie! You likely won't even last 90 days.
Now i've not run into many dogs in my life. I've actually dated some really nice guys. But the game factor was always there, even before Steve's book. And with my patience being a little thin, and my ever so strict 3 strike rule, I've put a few good ones out of the game. Likely even a little prematurely.
At the end of the day, I just want to act like a lady and think like one too. And i'll await that guy that is gentleman enough and mature enough to truly know how to appreciate me, as the lady that I am.
I guess I could also do a little better at putting myself out there more these days. I had to pull back and take a break and reevaluate somethings...particularly my long list and strict 3 strike rule.
I'm thinking of online dating. My 75 year old mother told me that she was going to sign me up on e harmony and black people meet, I chuckled, because she is not very computer literate. She doesn't understand that "facebook" stuff..LOL. But she said she'll have one of her senior group counselors help her fix me up a profile! Gotta love her! But it really got me thinking about it.....
Have you ever used an online dating service? Is that not "fly"? LOL!
Have you ever linked up via blogging? I mean, so much is shared on a blog, you really do get to know people that way. This would definitely be new for me.
First off, a big HUG and THANKS to all that have clicked to join my blog ( I hate saying follow)!!! #Appreciated I love sharing what I know (well, what I think I know) and I love reading what others post! Thanks for reading. I'm going to work on a give away soon!
Ok, I had to make another post before I went on to catch up on my blog reading. It is about the wonderful world of Youtube and the info that I have found!
Good Evening!
So we are having a halloween pitch-in for work on Wednesday and I am on list to bring in Sweet Potato Pie! I love SPP but hadn't actually made one of my own since like 2001! I knew it couldn't be that hard right? Is cooking certain recipes like riding a bike.... Well to be on the safe side, so that my coworkers wouldn't be whispering about me behind my back, i figured i'd better "practice". And in the midst of prepping to do a trial run, I thought, hmmm I wonder how an SPP mixed with cheesecake would taste..?? So I tried it tonight....and....Walahhh...here are my results!!!

This first one has a thin layer of sweet potato mixture, topped with a thicker layer of cheescake mixture and a little sweet potato heart in the center!
The second one, I put the cheesecake mixture in first, then dolloped the sweet potato mixture in and swirled it with a knife!
I also made a plain sweet potato pie. I must say they all turned out good! and are Kid (some of the hardest critics) Approved. I'll definitely be making these again..maybe for Thanksgiving! Stick to lasagna my tail..hmph! (that's all that my family will usually let me bring to functions...other than paper goods and soda!)
Wish you guys could taste them!
Today i'm feeling alot better. The antibiotics are working and my sinus infection is clearing up.
It's fall break for my kids, so I took these pics before we left out to do a little shopping earlier today.
I wasn't really feeling big on accessories today. So I kept it pretty simple with just some earrings and a watch.
Now even though I was under the weather and a little discombobulated, I was still able to do a little shopping. I got those shoes at a store called AJ Wright, they were $20 and I love them. The purse I found on sale at Old Navy for $11, I just love deals *starry eyed* like Flo (from the progressive commercials) Lol. You know she was voted most annoying commercial character.. ?Following her were the caveman and the burger king dude<--he's more creepy than annoying to me.

I 'm feeling like a sexy 32 yo in this outfit. Sweet and Simple, it's just a pair of skinny jeans, white tee, vest and shooties (not really shoes but not booties).

We shopped for Halloween Costumes earlier today but everything was so lame! So one of my daughters is going to be a cop and one decided to be a basketball player. Hopefully between now and then I will think of something creative to tweek their costumes. My other one, the oldest, hasn't decided yet. Poor thing, she's 13 and stuck in that stage of liking "little" girl things and "big girl" things so I guess she'll figure it out. I want to be a flaminco dancer! Yes, deep down inside of me lives a vegas showgirl! Lol.
All of my DIY'ers out there any ideas on how I can pull that off???
Well that is all for now, I hope that all has been well with all of you and hope that it continues to be. Wishing you peace, health, wealth...you know, all the blessings. TTFN
Thanks for reading.
